Welcome
to Melissa's Swim School
I'm Melissa and I have been teaching swimming for more than 10 years. I have experience teaching all ages, from babies to adults.
I am certified by Swim Angelfish Adaptive Swim Whisperers® to teach adaptive swimming. This means I have the skills and understand how to teach children and adults with physical or cognitive disabilities.
Additionally, I have a Master's degree in Special Education from ASU and I am CPR certified.
Most importantly, I believe that no one is too young or too old to learn how to swim. If there is a fear of water, I am here to help and guide my students through it.
Parent & Me

An adult will need to participate in the pool. There are up to 7 students in a class. This level will focus on educating parents on how to enjoy the water while teaching children the basics through song and play. They will learn how to hold their breath, kick and reach. This class will introduce supported black floats. Children will learn to hold onto the side and climb out.
Introduction to Swim Approx. Ages 3-5
Introduction to the basic skills necessary for swimming. For nervous students or beginners. We work on putting face in the water comfortably, underwater submersions, survival skills off the edge of the pool, kicking, back floats and great attitudes.
Group class Skill and Stroke Development Ages Approx. 6-12
This class will focus on independence. Must be comfortable swimming a short distance underwater. The focus of this level is to use big arm strokes to swim and learn to catch a breath. Independent back floats and diving
Adaptive Swimming
The Swim Whisperers® Certification has given me in depth training to work with individuals with a wide range of disabilities, including physical, cognitive, and sensory disabilities. It is a skilled methodology to adapt lessons to meet the unique needs of each individual, whilst prioritizing safety.
Suitable for Swimmers Who:
-
Have little water safety awareness
-
May have behavioral, sensory or motor challenges that require 1:1 attention
-
Struggle in a group environment
-
Have anxiety that gets worse around water
